Le Chat Noir

“‘Le Chat Noir’ is a small collection of images representing a personal self-exploration journey. It is also a prequel to ‘The Cage’.

When I spent six months alone in Europe, it was the first time I had left my homeland for a relatively long period. For some reason, I kept spotting cats, especially the black, seemingly stray ones. They roamed around the streets, looking for something. Some came near me and asked for my caress, so I did. It was sensual and unharming—an encounter of two lonely wanderers. These images represented a mixture of emotions and thoughts. I suppose they were what I longed for and how I saw myself. That was a moment of realisation of who I was and the things I did not know I missed before leaving home. Soon after, I started curating ‘The Cage’.”

This collection was exhibited in The Aftermath, Hong Kong, from 12th Nov - 8th Dec 2023.
